"Through Inspiration, Faith and Love we Learn, Grow and Succeed"

Important message from Mrs Litson

As we settle into this hard working Spring term I would like to remind everyone to PLEASE come and talk to me about any concerns you have around your child in school. If I am made aware of concerns I can and will help. Your children’s safety and education are my absolute priority, every day; if there is anything you are not sure about, and you would like to talk with me rather than a class teacher, please arrange through admin. to come and see me straight away.

I am approachable and friendly and can absolutely guarantee I will be able to provide you with more informed answers to your questions, assurance and understanding about what happens in school for your child, and why, than anyone else. I am very open to your thoughts, ideas and suggestions too, so please also share any ideas you may have!

Bottle Banks at Loddon Hall (Update 18.01.18)

Having firmly insisted that the Bottle Banks be moved AWAY from the school fence on Friday,  they were relocated in an even more unsuitable place, next to the fence by the willow village on Tuesday. I was assured they would be moved from this position today....they were...right back to where they started against the fence by the Woodland....

I have spoken to the relevant person at the council (again) and made my objections transparently clear. Bottle Bank Gate WILL be sorted.

As ever, be assured that your children's safety at school is our first priority.

Statement from the Governing Body

Like many schools we are experiencing both rising costs and reduced funding, resulting in challenges to our school budget.  We consulted our parents on their willingness to make voluntary donations, and they were overwhelmingly in support of helping the schools financially.

Whilst we are committed to the principle of state funded education, we have asked parents to consider making voluntary contributions this year.  This decision and our financial situation will continue to be carefully monitored by the Governing Body.

We are very grateful for the donations we've received; it will allow us to continue to provide an excellent education for our pupils.

School Closure Plan – January  2018

We would only close the school if we were unable to open or keep the school open safely. This might be because of poor weather conditions (if we had a lack of staff due to impassable roads) or if we lose water or power. Whilst most of our children live within walking distance, most of our staff do not. To open safely, we need enough teachers and teaching assistants, admin and first aiders to staff our school throughout the day.

It would be the last resort, but it is always useful for everyone to know what we would do should it occur.

What to do if the forecast is bad

1. Check if school is open or closed

  • We have our text/email message service, so you would receive a text/email to confirm the school is closed. (We would also use this if we had to close the school during the day.)
  • We would publish this information on the school’s and the Local Authority’s website.
  • We would also contact the local radio stations, so please listen in or check these websites:

If the school is closed, you might like to go onto Espresso, where there are lots of educational games and resources. You could do some science experiments if there is lots of snow to explore, or snuggle up and read or practise spellings and/or times tables!

2. If we are open, but there has been a lot of snow or a warning of snow

a.    Check your mobiles during the day in case we contact you to say we have to close the school early.

b.    It is really helpful if you send your child in with a packed lunch. This would mean we could carry on, even if our cook can’t make it in or if we have several days of bad weather and haven’t received deliveries. We do have food for at least one day in the kitchen, but it might not be as advertised if deliveries are affected.

c.    Please ensure your child has some waterproof footwear and/or a change of clothes in case they are wet from the walk to school and/or we can go out to play.

d.    Additional clothing is good when it is so cold. Please clearly label all items, as the number of hats/scarves/gloves increases, so it’s quite tricky to trace these if not labelled.

e.    Our experience is that After School Clubs are very likely to be cancelled. Please call school to check if your child would be attending one that day. If school closes, these clubs would definitely not be on.

f.     If the roads look really dangerous and you would prefer to keep your children home for health and safety reasons, please inform the school, and absence will be authorised whilst these conditions remain.

g.    We might alter the paths around school, so we can effectively treat a pathway. We might advise using the field as this tends to be less slippery.

Please check our Diary Dates page regularly to keep informed about meetings and events happening during the week.

Please can all parents remember to let school know, preferably in writing and in advance of the day,  if your son/daughter is going to be absent from school for any length of time and for any reason. Please complete an absence form, even if your son/daughter is absent for a medical appointment as we need these for our records in school. Thank you.

Staying safe

Please continue to remind your child(ren) to always keep themselves safe on their way to and from school and when they are out and about, by always being with a friend, family member or known adult. Please also remind them to tell a trusted adult about anyone or anything which worries them, either in or out of school.
